What is South Seas?
The Kappa Sigma fraternity at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga is doing its annual South Seas philanthropy event that benefits The Kappa Sigma Military Heroes Campaign on current projects. In the past we have raised money to help build a home for Andrew and Tori Smith. Andrew was wounded while on his first deployment in Afghanistan on March 8, 2012 by an IED. Andrew lost both his legs and suffered severe abdominal injuries. With the help of the local organization Steps-2-Hope we raised money for Team Andrew to help build him and tori a handicap accessible home near Hamilton place.
The Kappa Sigma Military Heroes Campaign is committed to supporting ongoing care for our military veterans and their families. We aggressively pursue opportunities to assist our nation’s veterans with financial and organizational support to help them overcome the battles they fight every day.
The Military Heroes Campaign is rooted in the idea that every veteran deserves a stable life and an active community of supporters. We do this through the generous donations of thousands of donors just like you and work with trustworthy organizations to ensure that donations go directly to those veterans who need it most.
We take pride in working with our community to provide opportunities for our servicemen and women. Your donations are sent to a select group of organizations who advocate on behalf of wounded veterans. We won’t stop supporting our heroic combat veterans, and we ask that you help us in the mission to provide the care that they deserve.
Your Donation Will Help Veterans and Grant you Exposure to the Chattanooga Community and Beyond
Throughout the week of April 8th the Kappa Sigma Fraternity will be putting on a series of events throughout campus. Every day members will be tabling in the university center (“The UC”) selling t-shirts and accepting donations. The banner for the event will also be on display in the university center for the entirety of the week. The UC is the central hub of UTC’s campus where the university’s student population of over 10,000 students visit almost every day.
In addition to the display of the banner, t-shirts with our gold sponsor logos on the back will also be sold to students and faculty. We expect to sell hundreds of t-shirts over the course of the week. All partnered sponsors will also be displayed at a volleyball tournament we are hosting on campus in support of the philanthropy. The conclusion of the week will take place with a cookout event at the Kappa Sigma Fraternity House. This cookout is where we will obtain our main funding for The Kappa Sigma Military Heroes Campaign and where we call on the community to help give back.
The final event to end our South Seas week in which companies have the option to sponsor tables and donate, with all proceeds directly benefiting The Military Heroes Campaign. Banners will be placed around the property for the event and t-shirts will also be available for purchase. We expect hundreds to be in attendance from the local community in addition with local media. Nationally, the Kappa Sigma Fraternity has over 300 chapters and over 50,000 living members. We will be partnering with our national headquarters to take over their social media outlets for the day granting us national exposure to the entire event.
